Christmas Poem 2020

The Light of the World

In eternity past, before the sun could shine,

When no moon or stars could give glow so sublime,

Our God, the Creator, was alone in His realm,

With the natural in nothing, and in darkness it dwelled,

His divine intervention brought a sudden, drastic change,

With new worlds being formed, and one in center stage,

But the entirety of Creation, all the universe received,

A special gift from God in Genesis one verse three,

With a resounding declaration, by His utterance alone,

His light was then bestowed to all, and throughout Creation it shown,

This gift of light not from this realm, preceded the sun's great glow,

To remind us all of light's true source: not the stars but Him alone,

The light God gave set forth His plans, for His work had just begun,

For night and day it set on Earth, but the sun and stars would come,

Though celestial bodies lit the night, God's light would come again,

For darkness from the stain of sin would consume the hearts of men,

The light of God dispels the dark, from it all evil flees,

For His light is not a simple glow, as Scripture has clearly decreed,

His light is His great righteousness, of His essence it is part,

This light He planned to share with us to save our wayward hearts,

For the ways of man diverged from His as the Tempter schemed with glee,

For Satan, in reptilian guise, made war with Adam and Eve,

Through casting doubt and crafting lies, Satan laid out his snare,

A choice of life or death was placed into the couple's care,

Free will allowed them to reject, but humanity chose to sin,

Then darkness tainted mankind's heart; to sin they did give in,

The fellowship with God they knew was now a severed mess,

Fell short they did of sinlessness, in darkness they transgressed,

But God's great love surpassed man's sin, although he turned his back,

For He desired to see mankind walk down His righteous path,

Though sin took over their broken hearts, and darkness made its home,

The Light of God was promised to come, and His beautiful plan unfold,

This Light foretold by young and old, across the centuries past,

Was the very Son of God, His humility unsurpassed,

Humanity's rescue was His goal, though to darkness and sin they curled,

The Son of God came down to earth to become the Light of the World,

Both fully God and fully Man, God Incarnate was He,

Restoration was His cause, so blind mankind could see,

The spiritual darkness over the Earth, with it Christ declared His war,

That His light would lead man back to God, to His love that He would pour,

His doctrine countered religion's lies that man could save himself,

For the holy standards of our God, no man can ever excel,

His words alone made darkness tremble; His light revealed the Way,

That humanity's sin was not the end, though we all had gone astray,

The life Christ lived upon this earth was not for selfish gain,

But to redeem mankind of wretched sin, to those who called His name,

His life He gave upon the cross; undeserved, though willing was He,

To forfeit His life for mankind's sake, through even painful agony,

The blood He shed that gruesome day, created the way for all,

That to all who confess in Jesus' name, His grace He would install,

Their sins He would cast into the sea, to never remember again,

That they'd become the children of God, beloved women and men,

The Light of the World, though He died, came back to live agāin,

For resurrection proved to all He defeated darkness' reign,

Though He left this weary earth, His work was not yet done,

For here He left His sacred church, to share the victory He won,

To all believers around the world, His mission He made clear,

To share His precious gospel message, so all may fully hear,

The Spirit of God He sent to us to dwell in our faint hearts,

To strengthen, guide, and comfort us, that we may play our parts,

For all who live in darkness' snare, Christ comes to their hearts' doors,

He knocks and knocks to enter in, seeking to settle sin's scores,

Unbelievers, though stained with sin, with them Christ shares His love,

That all who trust in His great name, God's children would they become,

Though darkness rages war on all, to blind both women and men,

Though it strives to steal all hope from us, attacking again and again,

Though it fights to discourage all who share the love of Christ,

Though it wars within our souls, to, off Him, remove our eyes,

The Lord desires that we remember His light in us indwells,

That Satan and his demonic kingdom, His righteousness repels,

That in the darkness of this world, we have the strength to fight,

When we seek the Word and love of God to always be our light.
