Again comes the season that sets eyes aglow,
That brightens the heart and makes joyful the soul,
That pleasures the ears and enraptures the mind,
Few days are as blessed; few times as sublime,
But what makes so special this holiday time?
The weather, décor, or the bells' timeless chime?
Not these nor the snowscapes can ever compare,
To the burning desire to give and to share,
This giving on Christmas, this generous mood,
This kindness for others so sweetly renewed,
Makes presents so precious to give and to take,
To see all the love and the care they create,
But One's boundless giving surpasses them all,
Our presents and works, when compared, are so small,
For Jesus, our Savior, our generous King,
Gave all so salvation we'd freely receive,
Before the beginning; eternity past,
Before He made earth, He had put Himself last,
For God knew that man would need rescue from sin,
So Jesus agreed to our race enter in,
Aside did our Savior put much for our sake:
His dignity, painlessness, heaven's embrace,
His glory and power and honor and praise,
His rest in the Godhead; all these put away,
To come to the Earth as our God wrapped in flesh,
And dwell with mankind in the dark of sin's mess,
To suffer with us our temptations and pain,
And bear undeservedly threats and disdain,
For hunger and tiredness, weakness and thirst,
Experienced Jesus, for us He put first,
Temptation from Satan; by Judas, betrayed,
All these bore our Savior to come to our aid,
No home did He seek, nor did fortune He chase,
All pleasures of Earth did He forfeit with grace,
To live as a servant, although He's our King,
To seek not His own, but give us everything,
But the Pharisees, Sadducees, priesthood, and scribes,
Who should have seen Jesus as Scripture describes,
Instead gave Him slander and hatred so snide,
Deprived Him of honor to build up their pride,
Then others did join them, both Gentiles and Jews,
To mock and reject Him; His love they refused,
But never this onslaught could Him ever break,
To Christ, it was worth it for our freedom's sake,
But greater than these was His gift of the Cross,
Where justice met mercy with Christ's greatest loss,
Above all the torture, beyond all the pain,
Far worse than His people desiring Him slain,
Was losing His access to unending Love,
By bearing all sin, which His Father must judge,
With fellowship broken when God turned His back,
Our Jesus endured then His Father's fierce wrath,
This sudden abandonment hurt Christ the most,
To lose with His Father communion so close,
This fellowship perfect was Christ's everything,
But freely He gave it to salvation bring,
From heaven's perfection to Earth's sinful hell,
Did Christ come to save us as Scripture does tell,
To take all God's judgment and pay for our sin,
By giving up all so salvation He'd win,
A Savior so generous, loving, and kind,
He offers us rescue and new life divine,
For all who call out to receive Him as Lord,
He'll dwell in their hearts and their names He'll record,
With promise of heaven and unending life,
And providence perfect from God day and night,
What choice could be better than giving Him all?
For life of surrender to Him He has called,
As Jesus the Generous Savior displayed,
Surrendering all lets our Lord have His way,
To mightily use us and give us His best,
To give Him our all: no way is more blessed.
